How to Prepare for the Switch to Google Analytics 4

Help me help you.

The new Google Analytics platform is a chance to start fresh. Don’t just replicate what you have been doing, take this opportunity to create a new measurement plan. Make an investment in this change and let it payoff for your business.

  1. Evaluate what you were tracking in Universal Analytics

Were you using goals or tracking events? Did you use any of them to make decisions about your website or business? How often did you check the data? What was the most helpful? What didn’t make sense?

  2. Review your website and create a wishlist

Have there been times you said “I wish I was tracking ______” or thought “I wonder if anyone even clicks this link”? Do you know which pages are the most popular on your website? Do you wonder how many visitors start to fill out a form, or start a cart checkout and stop? Go over your website and create a list of items you wish you knew about your website users.

  3. Establish your priorities

You may not be able to get all of your desired tracking or reports in place right away. Determine what information is the most important to you and what reports would be the most helpful in the next 2-6 months. It may take some time to get everything set up, but you also need to get used to the new interface and reporting. You don’t want to experience analysis paralysis by having too much data and not knowing how to get it or what to do with it.

  4. Hire me :)

You could scan the blogs for how-to’s and tips, or watch hundreds of videos (like I did), but why? My goal is to help you get setup, but also teach you the reporting capabilities and how to navigate the new platform in a way that isn’t overwhelming.
